Movies, too

Let's also post good movies we've seen lately. Here are a couple of mine:

Never Let Me Go was also a very good 2010 movie, with a great cast. I recommend it.

We just saw J Edgar and thought that was great, too.

Any others??

I'll keep thinking.

  1. One recent favorite movie of mine is Herzog's "Cave of Forgotten Dreams." Werner Herzog gains exclusive access to film inside the Chauvet caves of Southern France, capturing the oldest known pictorial creations of humankind in their astonishing natural setting.

Richard and I also enjoyed "Midnight in Paris," a romantic comedy with some fantasy elements, including many literary references and figures. It's more fun than I make it sound! But, there's a French theme in my post....somehow.

  2. Alan and I went to see "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to handle the violence, but I did ok. It's violent, but not as horribly graphic as I had feared. Maybe it's all about expectations ..

  3. Hey,

I just finished "Never Let Me Go" last week on Carl and Peggy's recommendation. I really enjoyed it -- very unique mood set by the perpetually subdued emotions/reactions of the main characters against the tension created as you try and guess at why they're all at school and later what is going to happen to them.

I didn't realize there was a movie made of this novel. A friend mentioned it when I recommended the book to them. I can't imagine the book translating to film well, but I'll probably check it out anyway (Kiera K and I have a thing going).

  4. I heard someone else talking about this book, too. I'm going to have to check it out. So far my book reading while on sabbatical has been a failure! However, I got a few other things done. I'm really hoping to have some time to read!
